Low blood pressure is also known as hypotension. Most everyone knows high blood pressure is dangerous but did you know low BP is also dangerous if left untreated?

If your BP level drops below 60 millimeters mercury (mmHg) will be considered as low BP. An abnormal decrease in pressure can lead to dizziness, fainting, fatigue, and tiredness.

As I have mentioned in the introductory part how can low BP could be hazardous to your health. But how should you know if You have an issue with low BP or not?

Actually, there are lots of symptoms rather you could say the warning sign body will give you if you have any issues with your body.

You just require little attention to know what your body is trying to say to you! However, don’t worry here I am giving a checklist for symptoms of low BP for better understanding.

  • Dizziness is a very common thing that frequently happens with low BP patients.
  • Fatigue/ Tiredness, You may feel lethargy if you have a problem with low BP.
  • You may have focus or concentration issues.
  • Blurry vision is one of the symptoms of low BP.
  • Disturbed sleep could be another warning sign of low BP.
  • Low BP penitent may have nausea or vomiting problems.
  • Depression can also occur if it stays for a prolonged period of time.

So now let us discuss the common reasons for low BP. There are numerous underlying reasons for pressure to drop.

  • Dehydration.
  • Anemia or internal bleeding.
  • Pregnancy especially during the first 24 weeks when it’s common for blood pressure to drop
  • Heart problems like heart attack, valve problems, and low heartbeat rate.
  • Endocrine disorders like the underactive thyroid gland could lead to a drop in your BP level.
  • Server infections in the bloodstream.
  • Different types of allergic reactions.
  • Old age.
  • Nutritional deficiencies/lack of certain nutrients in foods like Vitamin B12, and folic acid could also lead to hypotension.

What is the Treatment for Low Blood Pressure

So now let’s discuss what different remedies are available to manage and treat low blood pressure effectively.

#1 Stay Hydrated:

Drink more water, because sometimes dehydration leads to low blood pressure. So be watchful with your water intake.

Dehydration can occur if you lose water through diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and sometimes excessive workouts could also lead to dehydration.

So, drink water at regular intervals of time. set a routine or alarm/timer to remind you.

Do you know what! Alcohol has a dehydrating agent, so if you have a problem with hypotension, then try to avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water.

#2 Balanced Diet is the Key:

Yes, a balanced nutritional diet plays a vital role when it comes to hypotension. If you are not getting enough nutrition, then obviously it will lead to low blood pressure.

A deficiency of Vitamin B12, folic acid/folate, and iron could lead to anemia which is known as Pernicious anemia.

Anemia normally happens, when the body cannot make enough blood, which can cause low blood pressure.

You need to take nutritional foods to get rid of anemia and blood pressure. In some cases, the doctor may suggest a few dietary supplements as well.

#3 Eat more Salts:

Salt sustains human life and optimal bodily function.

Yes, salt contains Sodium and chloride. It helps to increase blood pressure levels, however, too much salt can lead to high blood pressure and heart-related issues.

I would advise choosing your salt wisely like pink salt, or table salt to your food. Avoid very salty and processed food.

Black salt is also beneficial. It has an adequate amount of all minerals like magnesium, iron, and calcium which are very helpful for the human body.

So, the point is for low blood pressure sodium is necessary, but it should be consumed at a moderate level to avoid different other diseases.

#4 Eat smaller and Low carb Foods:

After eating a big meal, your blood pressure level starts decreasing. This occurs because blood flows to your digestive tract after you eat. because the body has to work hard to digest heavy and big meals.

To prevent such conditions, eat smaller meals several times a day. As I mentioned include vitamin B12-rich foods and folate-rich foods in your diet.

Avoid or restrict high-card foods like potatoes, rice, bread, pasta, etc. You can have coffee which contains caffeine can temporally spike the blood pressure level by stimulating your heart rate/ cardiovascular system.

#5 Get your Thyroid Checked:

Yes, sometimes the lower level of thyroid could be the culprit. The thyroid is the primary growth hormone in the human body. It controls all the primary bodily functions.

There are two types of conditions one is hyperthyroid, which means your body is producing too much of thyroid hormones which cause different other diseases.

Another condition is hypothyroid, which means your body is not able to produce enough thyroid hormone and that is directly associated with low blood pressure.

So, if you are continuously having a low blood pressure issue, then you should get your check thyroid checked. Accordingly, the doctor may prescribe medication and diet chat.

#6 Keep an Eye on Blood sugar Level:

Do you know! if your blood sugar is low it can lead to high blood pressure and if the blood sugar level is high it could lead to low blood pressure.

Yes, an elevated level of blood sugar can lead to pressure. Volume depletion could happen from the diuresis that follows high blood sugar levels. This is when your body tries to expel glucose via increased urination.

So, get your blood sugar level checked regularly. Home monitor machines are availed in the market, you can check your sugar level at your home.

Visit the doctor for proper medication and diet plans. There is a certain exercise you could also do to control your sugar level.

#7 Alternative tips to Mange low blood Pressure

  • Do exercise daily, but yes be careful about heat and sweating, if you sweat then your bp level can drop drastically. So, it’s recommended to take a break and have water.
  • If you have an issue with blood pressure, then pay attention to your body posture like don’t sit cross legs. stand or get up slowly.
  • Prolonged bed rest could also lead to low blood pressure.
  • Wear compression stockings, it helps to move the blood in an upward direction, which prevents the blood pressure level to drop. This helps to relieve certain kind of hypotension that occurs due to laying down, standing, and sitting for long hours.
  • If necessary, visit the doctor, He / She may prescribe some medications based on your condition after a proper diagnosis.
