Hey, welcome back to my blog. Say cheese 😁 joke apart, Today’s topic is all about complete oral care. yes, I will be sharing some basic tips for good dental and oral health and hygiene. We always neglect our oral-related stuff as we don’t consider it as important as our other body parts. Agreed!

But you should remember your mouth is the entry point to your digestive and respiratory tract. Without proper oral hygiene can lead to several kinds of diseases such as tooth decay and gum disease. It can also create different types of other diseases such as cardiovascular, diabetes, cancer, etc.

Dental and oral health is an important part of your overall health. You need to learn proper oral hygiene routine such as brushing and flossing limiting your sugar intake to avoid long-term health-related issues.

You all must have known the term cavity! let us understand what is a cavity, cavity in simple terms we can say tooth decay is caused by a combination of many factors.

If you don’t take proper care of your teeth and mouth, take sugary drinks and foods it leads to cavities.

Food rich in sugar creates a situation wherein acid-producing microorganisms and viruses start to grow, dissolve the tooth enamel(Outer covering of the tooth), and create cavities.

The cavity is one kind of oral problem, Apart from the cavity there are different types of oral-related problems you can face.

There is one more gum disease known as periodontitis. It is a very serious gum infection that could damage the tissue, inflame your gum, and destroy the bone that supports your teeth. Eventually, It leads to tooth decay.

There are various reason that contribute to periodontitis such as

  • Genetic/Family history
  • Poor Brushing habit
  • Poor oral care
  • Intake of sugary food
  • smoking
  • Gas-related problems such as heartburn.Acid reflux
  • Diabetes

There are different kinds of dental and oral-related diseases we could face, but by following proper hygiene and care we can escape from it could also stop long-term health-related issues as well

Cavities:

The cavity is a very common type of oral disorder, When you don’t take proper care of your teeth, bacteria grow and produce some acid.

That acid is the main culprit it starts eating enamel the outer thin layer of teeth and connective soft tissues, which can lead to tooth decay.

Sensitive teeth issue:

You could feel some sensation(Pain or discomfort) in your teeth after having cold or hot food. that is called sensitivity.

some people naturally have sensitivity issues due to their poor enamel. By following good oral habits this issue can be resolved. There are specific mouthwash and toothpaste available in the market for people with sensitive teeth.

After having some teeth-related treatment like filling, root canal you could feel that sensation in your teeth however that is not always everlasting.

It might also be result of some different kind of issue like

  • Cracked tooth.
  • Cavities.
  • Gum diseases.

Gum Diseases:

There is something called gingivitis it is a mild form of gum disease, Have you ever observed a little bit of blood while brushing your teeth. It could make your gum swelling. This will be a cautious sign you could say, you developed gum disorder.

Here only gums are affected, If you don’t right care of your tooth then it could travel through your soft tissue goes below your gum line and into your bone. This leads to a serious form of gum disease known as periodontitis. Poor brushing and flossing is the main reason behind it.

Gum diseases also leads to serious kind of health related issue such as

  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Osteoporosis

Even though human teeth are extremely strong but they can crack or break in certain situations. This can create severe pain and discomfort.

  • Implant(Extremely Severe)

Before starting how can you take care of your oral health, first let me tell you there is a connection between oral and general health.

According to the mayo clinic, a Healthy mouth can help you to maintain a healthy body. poor oral health leads to different types of other diseases such as:

  • Heart disorder.
  • Premature birth
  • Low birth weight

According to the mayo clinic, Endocarditis is a life-threatening disease. It usually caused by an infection. Bacteria or other germs from your mouth, spread through your bloodstream and attach to damaged areas in your heart.

If it’s not treated, endocarditis could damage or destroy your heart valves. Now you can imagine how dangerous it could be. so let’s discuss how you can take care of your teeth.

  • Brush your teeth regularly. At least twice a day you need to brush your teeth and it should be done after a meal.
  • Use fluoride-based toothpaste, why fluoride-based toothpaste because it helps to prevent tooth decay.
  • Floss your teeth thoroughly at least once a day.
  • Limit your sugar intake.
  • Avoid tobacco products.
  • Avoid soft drinks.
  • Most importantly you should visit the dentist once every six months for a regular check-up.

Tip

You might have known probiotics are useful for digestive/gut health. But a new study has found probiotics are also beneficial for oral health. It helps to prevent plaque to deposit on your teeth and reduce bad breath. It also helps to decrease inflammation from your gum and beneficial for oral cancer too.

When to Visit the dentist

To prevent oral health problems and gum-related problems fix a regular dental check-up in the clinic. If you see any signs or symptoms that could suggest oral health problems, visit your dentist as soon as possible.

  • Red and swollen gums
  • If you notice blood while busing your teeth
  • Bad breath
  • Losing permanent teeth
  • Unusual taste in your mouth
  • If you sense pain or discomfort while chewing

Remember, early detection and treatment of problems with your gums, teeth and mouth can help ensure a lifetime of good oral health.

There are different types of treatment available based on your condition.

Teeth cleaning is part of oral care. It is normally done by the dentist, sometimes it occurs like despite everyday brushing and flossing you may have missed plaque, so it eliminates dental plaque from teeth in order to prevent cavity to develop.

So you must go for dental cleansing if you see any symptom or sign like plaque deposited on your teeth.

Dental Filling

If a person suffers from sensitivity or tooth decay due to different reasons such as loss of enamel then he /she should go for a dental filling.

This procedure is used to treat minor cracks or fractures in the teeth. It helps to repair cavities, holes in teeth.

Root Canal

A root canal is a dental procedure where dentists remove the soft center of the tooth, the pulp (it is made up of nerves, connective tissue, and blood vessels) that help the teeth to grow.

In the majority of cases, a general dentist will perform a root canal while you’re under local anesthesia.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a natural mineral, It helps to strengthen the enamel of your teeth prepares the tooth to fight against bacteria and viruses. Your dentist can go for a fluoride treatment in order to fight cavities.

Your oral health is an important part of your overall health. Poor oral and dental health leads to different types of diseases other than the oral and dental associated.

Many dental and oral problems start without any symptoms. Visiting a dentist regularly for a check-up is the best way to prevent the problem before it gets worse.
